Mrinya
Handcrafted Jewellery & Accessories
how it all began
Our Story
The name Mrinya means “of the earth.” For us, that isn’t just a name — it’s a promise.
I’m Shantapriya Mondal, and I was 18 years old when I sat down one evening with a few scraps of rescued fabric, no special tools, and an idea I couldn’t shake. Growing up near the bustling dress manufacturing hubs of West Bengal, I had watched mountains of beautiful fabric get discarded every single day. It felt like such a waste of something so alive.
So I made three earrings. From scratch. With whatever I had.
My mother encouraged me to share them on social media. A few days later, a stranger on Instagram had seen something in those three little pieces and placed my very first order. That moment changed everything.
But Mrinya didn’t come out of nowhere. In 2023, I built a small brand called Adbhuut. It taught me everything I needed to know — about craft, about people, and about myself. When life asked me to begin again, I didn’t walk away. I rebuilt. In 2025, Mrinya was born: a new name, a deeper mission, and the same beating heart.
Last year, we took Mrinya to the Kolkata 21 Saras Mela — and seeing people genuinely connect with what we were making in that beautiful space felt like the most quiet, powerful kind of affirmation.
We don’t have a physical store yet, but you can find us at exhibitions and government handicraft melas. Follow us on Instagram at @mrinya_by_shantapriya to know where we’ll be next.
This is how a Mrinya earring is born — a rescued fabric scrap, a piece of metal, and a whole lot of intention
Made with intention
The Craft
Every Mrinya piece begins with a rescued fabric and a quiet decision: to make it matter. We work with discarded textiles, cotton threads, clean metalwork, and wooden beads — shaping them into forms that are delicate, deliberate, and deeply personal.
Charms, bells, hooks, pliers — and a lot of love. This is everything that goes into making a piece come alive.
Fabric Jewellery
Textile-first pieces where rescued fabric is layered, folded, and shaped into earrings, necklaces, and more — cloth given a second, beautiful life.
Fabric-Metal Fusion
Where softness meets structure. Upcycled textiles paired with clean black and white metalwork to create grounded, effortlessly wearable everyday staples.
Hand Embroidered Jewellery
Embroidery has been in our culture for decades. We carry that tradition forward — stitching intricate patterns stitch by stitch, with cotton threads and wooden beads, into pieces that feel like quiet heirlooms.
Hand Painted Jewellery
A canvas worn close to the skin. Each hand painted piece is entirely one of a kind — brushed with color and intention, shaped by the mood of the moment.
We collect these fabric scraps from local boutiques and factories. What the world calls waste, we call a canvas.
What we stand for
Our Mission
Mrinya was built on two beliefs that shape everything we make.
Sustainability
We live near the dress manufacturing hubs of West Bengal, and we see what gets discarded every day. Mrinya was built as a direct response to that waste. We intercept beautiful textiles before they reach the bin and transform them into wearable art. Every piece you wear carries a fabric that almost didn’t make it — and now it has a story.
Women Empowerment
We believe the most meaningful thing we can make isn’t jewelry — it’s livelihoods. Every piece that leaves our hands was shaped by skilled women from our own neighborhood. By investing in their craft and their time, we keep a quiet but powerful promise: that real empowerment begins close to home.
Our first biggest order — every single pair made by hand. The workbench was full, and so were our hearts.
The hands behind the craft
Meet the Team
Small in number, enormous in heart — this is the family that keeps Mrinya going.
Shantapriya Mondal
Founder & Designer
I’m 21, and I built this brand because I love to make things. What started as a personal passion grew into something I never expected — a community of people who believe, like I do, that the most beautiful things are made with care, and made to last.
Maa & Baba
The Family Backbone
Behind every late night and every exhibition day are my parents — quietly holding everything together. They are the steady foundation that Mrinya grows from, without ever needing any credit for it.
Our Neighborhood Aunts
The Artisans

Aadi
The Note Writer
Our cousin — and the most special part of every gift order. Meet Aadi. He writes every handwritten custom note that goes out with your special orders, in his own careful handwriting. His salary? One chocolate per note. We think it’s a perfectly fair deal.
Every gift order goes out wrapped with care and a handwritten note. Want to add your favourite chocolate? Just ping us on WhatsApp using the button below. 🍫
Where we’re headed
Our Vision
Mrinya is just getting started.
We dream of partnering with more factories to rescue and upcycle textile waste on a far larger scale — because the more waste we intercept, the more stories we get to tell. We want to grow our team, bring more women from our community into the fold, and give more hands meaningful, dignified work.
One day, we hope to open our first physical storefront — a space where you can walk in, see the pieces up close, and feel the warmth that goes into every stitch and brushstroke.
And beyond all of that, we want Mrinya to become the destination for sustainable, everyday jewelry — a brand people reach for not just for how it looks, but for what it stands for.
We are growing slowly, intentionally, and with so much love. And we are so glad you are here for it.
